OUR STORY
June 6, 2024
From the desk of Yoav Shalev,
Founder of SYQEL INC and creator of HZP.
Dear fellow audiophile,
85 years ago, in 1939, musicians from all over the world were forced to conform to tuning their instruments around the A note at the 4th octave equaling the frequency 440 Hz. While there are many theories why 440 Hz was chosen, I did not find them to be that important since nearly all music recorded since then is tuned and played live at what’s commonly known as the “concert pitch”.
The area of sound therapy and healing through music and sound (both heard sound and ultrasound) have been highly researched. Many scientists around the world have already proven that various sound frequencies provide healing benefits that improve our overall human performance. Some researchers have even discovered that certain frequencies are able to kill cancer cells, stop viruses from spreading, cure many different diseases and reverse severe clinical conditions.
While curing acute conditions may require complicated medical interventions that also include the use of highly specialized medical instruments, I did come across various sources citing that listening to pure tones and music that was tuned to ‘Solfeggio Frequencies’ and the popular 432 Hz could be highly beneficial for a variety of wellness conditions such as improving sleep, improve immunity, reducing stress and anxiety among others.
From my experience of speaking with many doctors and reading about the true origin of most chronic medical conditions I have learned that in 99% of the cases the root cause for disease, illness conditions or otherwise poor medical conditions are somehow attributed to increased levels of stress, anxiety, poor sleep and compromised immunity systems.
As COVID was raging around us and forced the pandemic to be top of mind for us all, I became determined to learn more about these frequencies, and find music that was already tuned to them. So I started diving into the rabbit hole only to find that very little music had been returned to, or produced already tuned to these frequencies.
The music I did find on YouTube and Spotify was mostly meditation music and there was no easy way to validate that each one of these tracks were indeed tuned to claimed frequencies. Furthermore, having to rely on internet services that are notorious for censoring anything that goes against their agenda is not something that seemed like it could be a long term solution. Not to mention that the looming threats of communication blackouts would render the web services useless as no one could get access to them if such a communication catastrophe would happen.
Since I still have a library of over 1000 albums, and about 100GB worth of music (in my youth I was a DJ), I decided to look for a simple and quick way to re-tune the music I already had and listen to daily. I found a couple of complicated and very time consuming ways to manually retune each song, one by one, using Audacity or other DAWs like Ableton. But quickly concluded that those solutions aren’t really viable since it would require me to make a new copy of each song in each frequency, which means it would require me to get 10X more storage on my computer, phone and every single device I wanted to use when listening to music that was re-tuned to any of the songs.
Furthermore if I had done that it would make it super messy to manage the content and my music player would have have 10 versions of each song which means if I don’t use a shuffle feature I may end up hearing the same song 10 times, tuned differently, and that would get really repetitive really quickly.
So I continued to look for another solution, perhaps there is a player that could already retune my music in real time?
Unfortunately all I could find were 2 apps, one that could only re-tune music to 432 Hz and another for 528 Hz, both of which were pretty buggy.
I was still determined to get my music re-tuned, so, after exhausting my extensive internet search skills, I decided to leverage my knowledge of building startups and launching products to create an app of my own.
My goal was simple – I wanted an app that would enable me to infuse the music I already listen to with sound healing benefits by being able to easily click on a button and retune the song that is playing, into any solfeggio frequency or 432 tuning, in real time, without having to convert or alter the original file.
I won’t bore you with all the details of how long and complicated this simple goal was to achieve across all the different platforms that HZP (Hertz Player) is available but fast forward to now, HZP:
- Enables the user to change the output frequency, in real time, as many times as they want
- Enables the user to add their own music and enjoy it offline
- Enables the user to stream 1,000,000+ songs from the Audius catalog

It’s important to me to say that I did not go on this journey seeking fame or fortune. I simply wanted to build a better music listening experience for myself, my family and friends, and, well, things kind of evolved from there.
